This is a great home-style restaurant that has existed in the Laurel District for a year now. The food is simple, clean, wholesome and comforting. Started as a pop up shop, and has now evolved in to an intimate setting for dine-in, and a whole line up of take away food from both the fresh deli case to the frozen section. The chef and owner Michele, cooks up her family’s favorite dishes for us and is often greeting and waiting on customers her self.

I grabbed some food for take out the other day, but I usually dine in for both lunch and dinner. Fresh kale salad is a staple here, and I got some to go, along with their soup of the day; white bean with sausage. It was very delicious…. The soup was hearty and filling, perfect for these cold winter days and the kale salad had feta and clementines in it, (the fruit in the salad changes according to the season). I have had this same kale salad with feta and persimmons before, and it was equally delicious.

I also grabbed a large pot pie from here for my family’s Christmas dinner, and it was a perfect blend of all the necessary holiday flavors with out the big cleanup. She makes the best pot pie that I have ever had. In addition to dining in and taking out, I also have been promoting this restaurant and Michele’s food by buying gift cards from here for friends a family. It is a great way to support my community, and get the word out that there is healthy wholesome food in east Oakland which mostly is a food desert.

I was fortunate enough to be at Communite’ Table for dinner in November when they celebrated their one year anniversary. They had cheesy bread bites that they handed out to every diner at a table, champagne that they keep flowing all night, and an amazing flourless chocolate cake that they made sure every one had a slice….. all for free. It was a great celebration and I was happy to be there with my 4yr old toddler to enjoy it with her. I ordered the fried chicken, which came with a cabbage slaw and fresh cut potato chips with a spicy aoli.   I had an outside meal for my child, and they were gracious enough to bring her a plate for her food, and served her all night too so that she felt included. She was able to enjoy some of the chips and the anniversary cake with me. The servers here are VERY kind, attentive, and thorough. They always make sure that everyone’s water is filled and that their customers’ needs are met. Michele’s whole team is very thoughtful and kind, and they greet me warmly every time I enter the place, as they now recognize me as one of their regulars, although they have been this way since my first visit, which is why I keep returning. The yummy healthy food and the caring service are why I promote this place. I am very happy to have found such a gem in my community, and it is my pleasure to give my review of them.
